One hour 40mins flight to KL and we have had another time change making us five hours behind NZ.
As we were in row six we got off the plane quick and our bags were one of the first through. We brought our train ticket for the express to KL, all very easy and we were on our way to Sentral KL.
Took about 28mins then caught a taxi to our apartment which took another 12 mins.We decided to try an apartment for a change, as we are in KL for six nights. They are very new and we are on the top floor 26, with views over the city. So much room, spend most of the time getting around the unit. Such a change from hotel rooms.
When we woke up this morning it looked very foggy but were told its due to all the fires burning over in Indonesia, and as there is no wind to blow it away it is just sitting over us. You can still feel the sun coming through and no need to say, but its very hot.
This morning we found a supermarket nearby so first job was to stock up a bit for the few days we are here as we have the cooking facilities so may as well use them. We seem very central to things seven mins walk to this big shopping complex called the Pavilion. Got that one sorted then came back to Apt. and made brunch before we took off again at about 1.00pm and again still very hot and still no wind.
We weren't going to do too much today so thought we would walk to the Petronas Towers. Took 10 mins the other way (from the supermarket). We got to an intersection looking at our map, thinking they must be close now, looking all round couldn't see them. PT saw some pointed towers way in the distance and said that must be them, so I said they are ages away can't walk that far in this heat. Anyway looked at the map again and we said they have to be here on this corner, maybe behind this tall buildings beside us. Then saw people taking photos so we said must be here somewhere, then looked up at the building beside us and there they were. Right in front of us. We were only looking at the bottom of the buildings and didn't look up higher enough to recognise them. We nearly asked someone where they are, just as well we didn't as we were standing right under them. Imagine if we had asked? If we do anything stupid like that we usually say "Oh thanks for that, we're from Australia".Not a good day for photos with all the mist of the fires hanging over us. But you are aware that the sun is still getting through and making it so hot.
Went inside the Tower in the shopping complex, that made us feel good with the Air conditioning. So we spent some time there looking and walking around going up to the different levels of shops. PT brought some New Balance shoes. He had been looking all through Vietnam but they didn't make them bigger enough there. But at least these ones are genuine not fake as most of them were in Vietnam.
After cooling down in there back to the Apt. Didn't want to do too much today as we have six nights here and no need to rush in this heat. Had a quick swim then that's that for the day.
The Express train to KL Sentral. Didn't feel stable at all, it was all over the place, felt old. They said it was 140kms. Nowhere near the standard of the Hong Kong Express train. That one was smooth fast and stable....
When we arrived at our Apt last night it was dark. We walked into the unit and wow it was huge, corner unit with wrap around floor to ceiling windows. Top floor on level 26 room B1 26 2.
I had asked for a high floor with good city views. I think that they really honoured that as lots of the units just look into other buildings. A lot of new construction going on in this area. All very new and modern. We could notice the smoggy look over the city, but as I said its the smoke from the fires. Probably a bit of smog as well as there is no wind.
.Looking over the balcony to the streets below.
Woke up in the morning to see that the smoggy look was still there with no wind.
Same shot looking down from balcony but in the morning.
City view the other way out of our bedroom which continues round from the corner of the lounge area. Also very big.
Standing under the Petronas Towers looking up.
The middle part between the Towers at ground level is where the shopping complex is as I have mentioned below
Entrance to the shopping complex where we went today, between the bottom of the two towers.
Petronas sponsors these Mercedes racing cars.
Inside of the shopping complex looking up to the dome. This area was only six floors of shopping which was set between the two big towers.
Taken from the second floor,
each floor is circular as seen here.
WE were on the top floor 6th looking over to the lift well.
Waiting to buy something. His new shoes....
After we walked back to our unit today so hot went down for a quick swim in the pool. Sooo nice.
Give you an idea of the tower block we are in but can't see our unit from this photo. We are around the left corner more. This doesn't even show the top floor.
The bedroom with large bathroom going through the far door and right door going into lounge.
This shows, kitchen to the left dining and lounge. Big corner unit, so much room. Its got everything and a big plus washing machine and dryer. A real luxury after nearly five weeks of hand washing in a hotel room most nights.
Couldn't get all the bathroom in as its so big. It still goes round the corner on the left to a toilet area.
Shower, bath and twin basins and toilet.
We sat down to have a drink at 5.00pm before I started cooking dinner, which is a first for weeks, and suddenly the heavens opened. Lightning and very loud thunder just above us. PT didn't like that especially as we were on the top floor. The thunderstorm went on for approx 2 hours.
Forgot to say even have a large balcony right across the lounge area. Just looked out of the window now 8.00pm and it is all clear again and can see all the lights again. We were told that it is very common this time of year to get the rain and thunderstorms late afternoon then it just passes through.
Tomorrow we are going on a day trip to Malacca just organised for the two of us with a driver and car. We are hoping the weather isn't too bad as there should be some good photo opportunities, especially as I haven't had very interesting shots over the last few days.
At first this afternoon I thought that the uploading of the photos was going to be slow but it has improved in the evening. Don't know why but it did this in our last hotel also.
The little of KL we have seen so far is really impressive. Very clean wide road, all looks modern and well maintained. The roads seem so quiet and orderly after all the made drivers in China and Vietnam. They actually stop for you to cross over at a crossing instead of what we have been used to. Everyone for themselves. Nobody else matters. I must say it is Sunday so maybe the city streets are a lot quieter today. Perhaps tomorrow will tell. Nice City.
