Staying at the Serene Palace Hotel on the top floor 7th nice big balcony over looking the city. Nice big room.
Arrived at 10.00 pm last night very tired and wonder where we were when we arrived at the hotel. Dropped off down some small alley dirt road. Started to worry as first impressions sometimes cant be the best. However after a good nights sleep and nice hotel went out on foot got our bearings and realised that this is what it was like in this hotel area, narrow tacky lanes but once you get out into the rest of the city it all changes.
We got a taxi to the citadel area as this seems to be the main attraction to the Hue. If we had walked it would have taken 30 mins so in this heat thought that we would get the taxi there then wind our way back to the hotel on foot. The weather is still extremely hot with very high humidity. Just get drenched with the heat. It will be nice to get home to a normal climate.
Taken from our hotel balcony although too hot to sit out there. Should look nice at night.
Gates to the citadel. Crossing over the moat to the imperial city. We understand that the moat goes round the citadel 10 kms in all. Never took a photo of the main big gates Ngo Mon which we had to go through, as it is all under maintenance and had netting all over it.
Fish in a very big pond area full of water lillies.
Shots taken inside the Imperial and Purple Forbidden cities.
Huge complex with large open hallways getting them from one area to another.
Notice the detailed work on the roof.
The foreground of the above photo and the below photo show the damage from the early war days. They are slowly working on all this very large area to bring it back to what it was like as it has been accorded World Heritage Status. All very interesting trying to imagining what it was like for them during the eighteen hundreds
Pretty garden area with its own little moat around it. Got to the center over a small bridge.
Photos above and below, more of the run down areas. The land is very run down also. But as I said they are slowly getting it in order.
We have now left the imperial city and now visiting the museum. Gardens above and the building below. We weren't allowed to take photos inside but it demonstrated the lives of that generation eg plates cutlery chairs etc.
The old bridge over the Perfume River which runs through Hue.
As our Hotel is the other side of the river from the city we walked back over the bridge.
All scooters crossing the bridge not many cars.
Looking back up the river to the area where our hotel is.
As its so hot we decided to hitch a cyclo back to our hotel. This is the view from me sitting in the front of the bike going down the middle of the street. Bit scary but good fun and very cheap. Only about 2 or 3 dollars for quite away. Saves our hot tired feet. Going back to the hotel to cool down in the air conditioning and to organise a private tour for tomorrow to visit the Vinh Moc tunnels from the last Vietnam war. We get a car, driver and guide for the day for US$65 for as long as we like, set price. We also visit many other places.
