Hong Kong - 12th September 2014

Going back to last night we went down to the waterfront to watch the laser light show over the harbour but got back too late to include the photos in yesterdays blog. Couldn't really get a good photo of the laser lights as they were too quick to catch on camera.
It was a pleasant night on the waterfront and good astmosphere with people coming down to see the lasers. There was quite a strong breeze blowing through the harbour which felt great.

On the promenade you can see squares on the pavement these are known as the Avenue of Stars, names and hand prints of the stars. People seem to love putting their hands in the stars prints.

We were on our way to get a spot to watch the lasers. Island buildings lite up over the water.

One of the junk boats with it sails lit up. Many boats were going up and down in front of the people. Probably all part of the show.

Looking over to Hong Kong Island during the laser show lights. The buildings were all doing their thing as they were set up to have lights moving up and down the buildings as part of the show like dancing lights  with music playing along the waterfront.

Above and below photos were trying to catch the lasers but very hard to know exactly when they were coming. If you look close enough you will get the general idea how it all looked except you cant see the lights on the buildings dancing up and down.

This is looking down towards the eastern end of the harbour a common sight  in Hong Kong seeing all these high rise apartments everywhere you go. Quite amazing.

Today is our last full day in Hong Kong. We heard heavy rain in the night but when we woke it was cloudy and looking dark in areas but we managed to get out walking  for the morning  partly cloudy then the sun came out. We then decided to get back to the hotel to have a relaxing afternoon. We just got back and the rain came and had quite heavy falls all afternoon. It was good really as it made us relax before our trip to Shanghai tomorrow. We leave  on Hong Kong Airlines at 1.00pm.

We decided this morning to have another walk around the Nathan Road area. The above photo is taken down one of the back roads parallel to Nathan Rd. The red and grey taxis would be every fourth car. We like to explore these back streets. Amazing some of the shops you see. Some as big as a toilet!!

Banyan trees up and down Nathan Rd.

We were rushed by a group of students giggling and saying we would like to ask you a question and had their video going. I think it was part of a project interviewing tourists. The above photo was another group all from the same school performing and they ask another tourist to take their photo so I got in and took one also.
Also haven't mentioned walking down Nathan Rd drives you mad being pestered by men approaching you saying "Taylor" trying to make you suits and ,shirts. Then its handbags & watches you just keep walking and they keep walking beside you. I was so sick of it I finally turned round and said in a load voice "NO" gave PT a hell of a fright.

You see these little sandpits around town in case your dog gets caught short.

After our morning walk this morning we just got back to the hotel and it just poured down. Suddenly we lost our nice outlook but after two and half days of been out in the hot sun all day we were ready for time out this afternoon and the weather helped us to stay in.

We took a selfie up on the roof of our hotel. As you can see the weather had started to pack up.

Well this is it for Hong Kong. We had a very comfortable hotel especially as we were upgraded to an Executive Club Harbour View room. This room also included a full cooked breakfast every morning so we had plenty there then we didn't need any lunch. Also had a lounge serving coffee cakes all day and from 5.30pm free drinks and light food including satays, pasta, spring rolls mince pastry cases cheese boards ham more cakes. So that's where we ended up every evening and it was enough food to make it dinner all free so why would you go out for dinner.. So as you can see we haven't spent much here at all. We had pre-paid our Big bus 48 hour tickets on line at home. Probably only had to pay for a few taxis and a snack or two then ofcourse our transport to the airport tomorrow. Haven't decided whether we will go by taxi or the express train...Also we have had very fast free wi-fi in our upgrade. The rest of the hotel has to pay for wi-fi. Fastest wi-fi we have ever had.

In summary to finish up Hong Kong is a vibrant clean city interesting with all its high rise apartment new and old  and big new office towers in central, but also very hot and humid. Off to Shanghai tomorrow (Saturday.)
