Hanoi, Vietnam - Thursday, 25th September, 2014

We left Beijing yesterday in brilliant sunshine the best day we would have had in China and of course it was the day we were leaving. Think it was the only day we saw sun in the eleven days we had there. We always say the day you fly it takes out the whole day and again this was the case.

We arrived in Hanoi Vietnam at 7.00pm last night stepped off the plane and really felt the heat after comfortable weather in Beijing so will have to adjust again. The heat and humidity is sapping.

Good flight on Airbus A321 which has been our sixth flight since we left home in two weeks one day. Still have another four flights to go. It took about one hour driving from the airport. Our pick up was there waiting for us just to step into the car and taken to Hotel.

Arrive at the Oriental Central Hotel in the dark so just settled in our room to unwind from the all day travelling. Above picture having our welcoming drink on arrival at Hotel. When our car pulled up outside the Hotel about 4 or 5 lovely people rushed out to greet us. Doors being opened taken straight in sat us down for a drink and chat about their Hotel. Soooo friendly.

Our room Junior Suite. Decided to go for the suite as it is so cheap here for what you get. Much bigger than photo shows as opposite bed desk TV then down a little corridor to a nice bathroom.

Looking out of our window down on to a narrow street. Usually there are a lot more motor bikes rushing by. Good weather today a little high cloud and sunny. We are in the old town area. Gives you the real old era.

Every narrow road has motor bikes coming in all directions nobody stops for anyone so a real challenge crossing the road. Scary as at first but started to work out how to do it in and out of scooters. And as one Englishman told us, just go slowly and steadily across the road and they go either side of you like a swam of bees.

Went for a walk down to the lake to walk out over a bridge to the Ngoc Son Temple which sits out in the lake. Above and below photo looks back at the city area.

Outside the Temple incense pot where they were burning the incense.

Above and below outside the Temple Ngoc Son .

Inside the Temple

This is where they send money, letters to the dead. People throw money in or they write a letter to their dead relatives and it burns in this fire pit and supposedly gets sent to their relatives for their next life. It smoulders away continuously in the fire pit. A text will be next or email.

Bridge over to the Island to the Temple.

Just outside the temple the walk along the lake edge. We didn't go further today but will do that walk later.

What about this to transport your goods. We also saw a scooter with 6x 20 litre barrels on board plus other smaller tins. Possibly paint.

Who's this handsome man selling bananas. Very cheap. We brought some and the lady tried to do us. We didn't have the right change so she wouldn't give me any until I paid and she would then give me the change but she then wouldn't so I just snatched it out of her hand. She wasn't going to get away with that. Only nasty person we have come across so far.

See the scootor in the distance big load. Look at all the scooters/bikes. Every street is full of parked scooters/bikes. Can't even walk down the footpaths as they park there. So you are dodging masses of parked scooters as well as moving scooters.

Quan Chuong Gate to the Old Town

We had been walking for hours and a way from our hotel, tired hot feet , so we got a ride on one of these cyclo's. PT said he wouldn't get on one of those too dangerous but his feet won.

So here we are sitting in this Cyclo been peddle all the way back to our Hotel. You can see the front on his awning just at the top of the photo. It sure was an experience cost $3.00 to take us quite a way. PT said he felt sorry for him  hard work with us two sitting back doing nothing. I said don't worry about him that's big money to him. .

Look at all those power wires. Imagine what the authorities would do if this was in NZ. I have seen a lot worse and I shall update if I can!!
