Hong Kong - 10th September,2014

We left Auckland yesterday 20 mins late at about 2.00pm travelling Cathay Pacific which we hadn't travelled on before.  We had heard that they have a good reputation and were looking forward to it.
Unfortunately we were not impressed. For an eleven plus hour trip this particular plane, Airbus 340 didn't have reclining seats. We have never been so uncomfortable didn't sleep at all although being a daytime flight wasn't so important. You just couldn't relax. Apart from that it was a good smooth flight and wow Hong Kong Airport was amazing.

We eventually arrived at our Hotel Panorama NZ time at 3.00am with a confusion re our shuttle booking which was a freebee  from the Hotel.
Finally got to bed about 3.30pm and slept well and adjusted to local time very well.

After breakfast got straight down to the Big Bus Hop on and Off and hit Kowloon on our first trip (the blue line). We had booked a 48 hour pass which includes three tours, blue Kowloon, then green and red on Hong Kong Island.

The weather is very hot and very sunny so sitting on the top open deck of a double decker was scorching.

Spent the morning on the blue line then afternoon over to the Island to do the green line which took two hours driving with one stop where we got off. In this heat it was easier to stay on the bus and watch the sights from there rather than hop on and off and hang around for the next bus in this heat.

Photo taken from our hotel room when we arrived at 3.00am last night looking across the harbour  to the Island. We are on floor 31.

Our room taken when we arrived last night.

PT doing really well on floor 31 especially with nearly floor to ceiling windows
.

When we pulled our curtains back this morning we saw this cruise ship coming down the harbour.
We have seen quite a few cruise ships coming in today. Busy place for this.

This is our view from the bathroom sitting on the loo. Bath in foreground with shower over bath. PT is really brave shower in these conditions.

As the Hop on and off bus doesn't start until 10.00 am we walked down to the water front first. Looking over to the Island.

Another shot looking across the harbour.

We started off on the bus from down the road in front of our hotel on the waterfront going along to Nathan Road. Drove up Nathan Rd where you see lots of the old flats where people live. Although Hong Kong is growing and progressing with new high rises everywhere there are still the old buildings in this area. Note the old air con units on the above shot!!

Above and below still going up Nathan Rd

Combination of the old and new apartments

You see a lot of these apartments newer than the ones above.

We have now finished the mornings trip on the Blue route and now on the ferry to the Island to do the Green trip.

Now on the Green trip and stopped to take the Peak tram/cable car up the highest point on the Island.
It was really steep in places but great fun.

On our way up the hill.

Looking back down on the high rises.

What a great view and a perfect day for it looking over the island high rises , back over the harbour to Kowloon where we are staying.

When we came down we continued on a trip round the south of the Island. A different world round there beautiful place for tourist and the locals to get away from the busy areas to relax and swim. A very nice area, Repulse Bay. Its like a different world which some people wouldn't know it exists behind the height rises and the hills.

Above and below some of the great buildings around the southern coast. Quite a few buildings have these gaps in the middle. Rather interesting.

Further round the coast.

Stanley, all in the Repulse Bay area.

All above all around the Southern coast.

Passing by a grave yard built on the side of a steep hill.

Back in our hotel after a very hot busy day. Good to be in the air conditioning.
Cruise ship going pass our window. Taken from Hotel room.

Junk going pass zoomed in from our room.

Very enjoyable hot day but feel we saw a lot. Will continue to see other spots tomorrow as we have a 48 hour pass on the Big Bus.
